Bevington - 2 manual, 13 rank
The restoration
of this 2 manual, 13 stop Bevington instrument was completed
in 1997. This late 19th Century mechanical action instrument
was imported from Soho, London by the British colonists
and is constructed entirely of Honduran Mahogany. This species
of wood is the only kind that is not part of the wood-eating
termite diet. In the early part of this century, the instrument
was reinstalled in St. James' Parish Church (Anglican) of
Montego Bay. Work included releathering of the bellows and
hand pump mechanisms, recovering the keyboards with bone,
repacking all stoppers, rebuilding offset and pedal chests,
rebuilding all key and stop action, installing new tuning
collars, and completing with tuning and regulation.
