1868 E. & G.G. Hook #461, 2 manual, 26 rank Specifications
The organ in the Chapel of St. Joseph, St. Joseph’s University, began life as E. & G.G. Hook Opus 461, built in 1868 for the former Green Hill Presbyterian Church. The organ was bought from the church in 1987 and rebuilt in our shops. The casework, of chestnut with walnut trim, was stripped and refinished, and made taller for its new home by the addition of a new section just below the impost. All interior parts were cleaned, repaired, and if missing, replaced. Prepared-for stops that had never been installed were provided and several short-compass stops were filled out. In the Great, the 8' Melodia and 8' Dulciana were originally TC with an 8' Unison Bass. Each is now full compass. The three prepared-for stops, 4' Flute a Chimnee, 2 2/3' Twelfth and 2' Flageolet were installed using recycled period pipes. The original Mixture II was given a third rank. The divided 8' Oboe/Bassoon was combined onto the Oboe draw knob with the Bassoon knob being used to control the new Dolce Cornet III. A new 16' Trombone was placed on a newly-constructed windchest.
